Ricardo Sebastian was born August 20, 1937 in the Philippines to Lorenzo Sebastian and Felisa Velasquez. He began training in the art of Kamagong in 1952 with Grand Master Francisco Andukal and instructor Augustine Viray in the Philippines.
After 10 years of intensive training he became an assistant to Grand Master Andukal. In this capacity he began teaching students in the Philippines, which he did for several years. In 1972 he was declared a Grand Master by Andukal and Mr. Viray.
In 1991 he immigrated to the United States, and began teaching his “Art of Self Defense” to groups near his home in Tooele, Utah, located 30 minutes southwest of Salt Lake City. Since that time, he has been invited to share his knowledge of the martial arts with eager students at studios throughout Utah.
The instructors at many of those studios have been so impressed by his presentations, they have become his students. Doctor Sebastian has also been asked to provide training at the Utah Police Academy, and for S.W.A.T. Officers.
In July of 1998 Doctor Sebastian was inducted into the Filipino Martial Arts Hall of Fame by the United States Kali Association, and was given the lifetime achievement award.
The following November during a solemn ceremony in San Diego, California, The Golden Global Martial Arts Hall of Fame awarded him their Platinum award for 60 years of contributions to the Martial Arts, and inducted him into their Martial Arts Hall of Fame.
The following July he was again invited to El Paso, Texas by the United States Kali Association, where he was awarded a Doctorate Degree in Martial Arts Science, and was given the title of Tuhon, meaning King; the highest award the Association can bestow.
