Welcome to the online home of the Kamagong Martial Arts system.
The Filipino Martial Art of Kamagong was introduced to the United States in Tooele, Utah with the publishing of Doctor Ricardo Sebastian’s book “The Turtle.”
For most people, the image of a Turtle probably doesn't inspire thoughts of a dynamic self defense method, but the turtle’s shell provides an excellent defense for the animal living inside it.
Doctor Sebastian’s martial arts method is named after the Kamagong tree from his native home in the Philippines. The wood of the Kamagong tree is so hard and dense; it must be cut with a hacksaw much like a piece of steel. So like the Turtle’s Shell and the Kamagong Tree, students of this unique Martial Art become nearly unbreakable.
The intent of Doctor Sebastian’s defense method is to avoid unnecessary confrontations and lethal force. Students are taught how to replace anger with patience and calmness, and to react appropriately whenever a physical response becomes necessary. He says that “When you understand and practice this art, you realize that you have the power to control the situation if need be, even though you try to be at peace with everyone.”
Doctor Sebastian is a staunch believer in respect for self, parents, family, fellow men and all life. According to him, such respect dwells within ones heart. He is also a staunch believer in self defense that avoids killing. Instead of brutalizing or killing a disarmed or injured attacker, give them to the proper authorities and let the legal system dispense the appropriate justice. He is still teaching classes in Tooele, and has authorized instructors to open additional schools in Salt Lake City, and Southern Utah.
